JDD x Coventry Uni - Wood donation

JDD x Coventry Uni - Wood donation

Almost 20 years ago to the day, James Mercy started studying his design degree at Coventry University, graduating in 2008. Now, as co-owner of JDD with Joe Duffell (who started his design studies at Nottingham Trent in parallel) we are going back, with a collaboration - JDD x CU. In the last few weeks, this started by donating materials and sharing expertise but there is so much more to come!

It's not the first time we have worked with the educational sector; earlier this year, we donated offcut materials to the surrounding schools, and now we've worked some magic with our scrap wood.

Our sustainability expert, Sadie Millermaggs, worked alongside Coventry University to rehome our scrap MDF and Plywood, allowing them to use it for their students. Educational sectors are often short-changed regarding funding, so we wanted to help provide the students and lecturers with practical materials to support their work.

Tim Ball - a senior lecturer at Coventry University said: "A huge thank you to everyone at JDD who made today's delivery possible - and for the assistance with unloading it.
We're delighted to have the structural ply/MDF offcuts we anticipated and many bonus items that our technical team is already eyeing for other projects!
Consequently, we're most grateful to have these materials, which will also support and extend students' work across the wider school."

We are just happy to be able to help where possible and will strive to continue finding outlets that can use our leftover materials. Looking to the future, our goal is to work with other universities on similar ventures, and we'd love to hear from you!
